Little noticed by main stream media was the sale of Current TV to Arab news giant Al Jazeera.
The takeover will provide Al Jazeera with access to millions of U.S. households, a lucrative market the Qatar-based broadcaster has long coveted. The deal also means the end of Current, the low-rated channel co-founded by former Vice President Al Gore.
Time Warner Cable had recently renewed their contract with Current TV but when the sale was announced Wednesday morning Time Warner Cable announced plans to drop it as quickly as possible.. "Our agreement with Current has been terminated and we will no longer be carrying the service," the cable provider said in a statement.
Current TV's wiki page is here.
Cedar's Take: I am sure I am missing something maybe a US rule that says US cable companies can't carry Arab owned television networks.
